Shelter House

Founded in 1983, Shelter House is a non profit organization that provides emergency shelter and housing services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Johnson and Washington counties. More than a roof and a bed, Shelter House provides a 70-bed emergency shelter, 47 permanent supportive housing units and comprehensive support services including employment assistance and mental health services. Case managers work with clients to address barriers to housing to help them live independently and transition into their own permanent home. Shelter House’s Re-Housing program is dedicated to quickly returning clients to housing by developing relationships with landlords, providing rent assistance, and through ongoing case management services. Addressing more vulnerable populations, the Fairweather Lodge and Cross Park Place programs combine affordable, permanent supportive housing and offer behavioral and primary healthcare services for individuals struggling with chronic physical and/or severe mental health.
